The notification bell

A bell icon in the header shows your unread notification count and opens a panel listing recent notifications — no email, no push notifications, everything stays inside the app. Each notification can be marked read individually, or all at once, and dismissed when you're done with it.

What triggers a notification

Two kinds of notifications generate automatically:

• Critical lab values — marking a lab result's interpretation as Critical immediately creates a notification (see the Lab Results section), so a critical value doesn't just sit unnoticed in a list
• Follow-up reminders — if a healthcare encounter has a follow-up date, a reminder notification is generated for it automatically

Per-type preferences

Each notification type can be turned on or off independently from Settings → Notifications, so, for example, follow-up reminders can be disabled while critical lab alerts stay on.

Broadcast messages

Occasionally a broadcast notification may appear for announcements relevant to everyone using Health Record (e.g. a scheduled maintenance notice). Dismissing a broadcast is remembered per-user, so it won't reappear after being dismissed.

Turning notifications off entirely

There's no single switch to disable all notifications at once — turn off each type individually from Settings → Notifications instead.
